Esta asignatura explora la evolución del universo gótico desde finales del siglo XVIII hasta la actualidad a través de diversas obras literarias y otros medios, tales como la novela gráfica, la música, las adaptaciones cinematográficas y las series de televisión. Se analizará cómo el género gótico expresa ansiedades personales y culturales, desde el miedo a lo desconocido, el retorno de lo reprimido y la erotización del terror hasta cuestiones de etnicidad, género, salud mental, trauma e identidad en el mundo contemporáneo. Se realizará la lectura crítica de textos, y se abordarán contextos históricos, marcos teóricos y análisis temáticos para comprender las dinámicas, los significados y la vigencia actual de la imaginación gótica. 

This course explores the evolution of the Gothic universe from the late eighteenth century to the present day through a variety of literary work and other media, such as graphic novels, music, film adaptations and television series. It examines how the Gothic genre expresses personal and cultural anxieties, ranging from the fear of the unknown, the return of the repressed and the eroticization of terror to issues ethnicity, gender, trauma, mental health and identity in the contemporary world. Through the critical reading of texts, students will engage with historical contexts, theoretical frameworks and thematic analyses in order to understand the dynamics, meanings and continuing relevance of the Gothic imagination.

-Aplicar marcos teóricos y metodológicos de los estudios literarios y culturales al análisis de la literatura gótica y de lo gótico en otros medios.

-Critically analyzing Gothic texts in relation to historical, sociocultural and psychological contexts.

-Examining Gothic imagination across different media, such as film, comics, music, among others

-Applying theoretical and methodological frameworks from literary and cultural studies to the analysis of Gothic literature and the Gothic in other media.
