Esta asignatura propone una exploración de debates, problemas, y cuestiones clave de la crítica literaria relativas a la modernidad y posmodernidad literaria en el ámbito anglófono de finales de siglo XX y del XXI. Se examinarán distintas problemáticas y movimientos desde un punto de vista crítico y a través de diferentes prismas tales como el asunto de la periodización literaria, las tensiones entre la literatura nacional y regional, la apertura del canon o las subjetividades inestables producidas en la literatura contemporánea, siempre en relación al estudio de los textos literarios y a su capacidad para producir identidades culturales. De este modo, se conseguirá una reflexión crítica sobre el devenir de la producción literaria anglófona de los últimos tiempos en relación al concepto siempre cambiante de modernidad.

This course offers an exploration of key debates, issues and questions in the field of literary criticism and its relationship with literary modernity and postmodernity in mid-twentieth and twenty-first century anglophone texts. The course will critically examine different movements and problems through a range of lenses, namely, literary periodization, opening the canon, tensions between national and regional literature, or unstable subjectivities produced in contemporary literature, considering the primary texts and their capacity to produce cultural identities. In this way, a critical reflection will ensue on the unfolding of recent anglophone literary production and its relation with the ever changing concept of modernity.

Adquirir conocimientos sobre las distintas problemáticas relativas a la producción literaria anglófona en la segunda mitad del siglo XX y el XXI.

Identificar las cuestiones teóricas sugeridas o contenidas en los textos literarios propuestos.

Cuestionar la pertinencia, vigencia, relevancia de términos y etiquetas de la crítica literaria como postmodernismo, metamodernismo, literatura regional, o “alta y baja” literatura.

Teorizar, debatir y argumentar sobre el devenir de la modernidad tal y como se refleja en la producción literaria anglófona en la segunda mitad del siglo XX y el XXI.

Investigar los desarrollos más recientes de las problemáticas presentadas en clase en un corpus contemporáneo.

Acquiring knowledge on the different issues related to mid-twentieth and twenty-first century anglophone literary production.

Identifying theoretical issues suggested by or contained in the primary texts.

Questioning the appropriateness, currency and relevance of critical terms and labels such as postmodernism, metamodernism, regional literature or highbrown/lowbrow literature.

Theorizing, debating and arguing about the development of moderntiy as reflected in anglophone literary production from the mid-twentieth century to contemporary times.

Researching the most recent debates and issues of the syllabus in a contemporary corpus.
