Literaturas de violencia, crisis y disrupción         

La asignatura ofrece una aproximación a las narrativas de violencia y crisis en lengua inglesa, con especial atención a aquellas que aborden estos temas desde una perspectiva rupturista o formalmente experimental, ya sea desde la ficción o desde el testimonio. Se atenderá a diferentes géneros, como novela, relato, poesía o narrativa gráfica, con predominio de obras contemporáneas que surjan de contextos geográficos concretos o múltiples. El acercamiento a la crisis y a la violencia no parte de una perspectiva pesimista o fatalista, sino de la exploración de cómo la literatura y la cultura reflejan, dan sentido o cuestionan males contemporáneos como la crisis climática, las crisis humanitarias y políticas, la violencia sistémica, racial y sexual, la persecución de las minorías, la crisis de la vivienda o la precariedad, entre otros.

 

Literatures of Violence, Crisis and Disruption

The course offers an approach to narratives of violence and crisis in the English language, with particular attention to works that address these themes from a disruptive or formally experimental perspective, whether through fiction or testimony. Different genres will be examined, including the novel, short story, poetry, and graphic narrative, with an emphasis on contemporary works emerging from specific or multiple geographical contexts. The study of crisis and violence does not begin from a pessimistic or fatalistic standpoint; rather, it explores how literature and culture reflect, make sense of, or challenge contemporary problems such as the climate crisis, humanitarian and political crises, systemic, racial, and sexual violence, the persecution of minorities, the housing crisis, and economic precarity, among others.

• Adquirir conocimientos sobre la representación de la violencia y la crisis en la tradición literaria y gráfica anglófona, con especial atención a textos contemporáneos (siglos XX y XXI).
• Analizar de manera crítica distintas manifestaciones temáticas de la violencia y la crisis surgidas de contextos geográficos diferentes.
