Faculty
Most of the faculty of the Doctoral Programme belong to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, integrated into different research groups that have been working stably and continuously, with funding through competitive public calls and contracts with various entities and companies, and with extensive experience in supervising doctoral theses. The seven research groups are recognized by the Universidad Complutense as consolidated groups. In total, the faculty of the Doctoral Programme in Chemical Engineering is made up of 40 UCM professors, of whom 85% hold an active six-year research assessment period ("sexenio vivo").
Researchers from other Research Centers who participate in the supervision of doctoral theses are also currently part of the Programme:
- National Center for Metallurgical Research, CENIM-CSIC.
- Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research, CIEMAT.
- National Center for Food Technology and Safety, CNTA.
- Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies, IMDEA Agua and IMDEA Energía.
- Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry, ICP-CSIC.
- Research Institute, i+12 (Hospital 12 de Octubre).
- Institute of Materials Science, INMA.
Foreign professors and researchers also actively participate in the Programme, and their collaboration is essential to strengthening its international dimension. These collaborations take various forms, such as the evaluation and co-supervision of theses, research stays at foreign institutions, joint publication of scientific articles, and participation in international research projects. In particular, for theses seeking the International Mention, these foreign experts take part in issuing the prior evaluation reports and sit on the committees responsible for examining these theses, thereby helping to ensure the academic rigour and international recognition of the Programme.

Mechanisms for computing tutoring and thesis supervision work
The deductions in the teaching load associated with tutoring and thesis supervision are reflected each academic year in the University's teaching schedule (https://www.ucm.es/dedicacion-docente-del-profesorado) within the Faculty Teaching Dedication section.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, what was approved for 2023-2024 was maintained, which proposes counting 20 hours per directed Thesis (proportional to the number of co-supervisors if co-supervised) that have been defended at the UCM in 2023, up to a maximum of 40 hours. These hours will be recorded in GEA as teaching, instead of as PDA2, being considered in all respects as teaching needs of the Department.
