Code of Good Practice
Code of Good Practice
The Code of Good Practice for the preparation and supervision of doctoral theses constitutes a set of recommendations and commitments designed to guarantee the quality of the doctoral process. It sets out the requirements that pre-doctoral researchers must meet, as well as all members of thesis supervision teams, describes measures to promote quality and clarifies the roles and responsibilities of doctoral students and their supervisors.
These guidelines complement national legislation and UCM regulations, which can be consulted on the Doctoral School website, and seek to adapt the university to the European Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R). The Code includes a series of annexes addressing specific aspects of research, such as ethical principles and codes, good practices, authorship and plagiarism, data management and others that should be considered an integral part of it.
The primary responsibility of doctoral students is to conduct high-quality research that culminates in the defence of the doctoral thesis, as well as to actively participate in the academic environment. The supervisory team must guide and support the doctoral student throughout this process, and introduce them to internal, national and international research groups and networks. This code aims to help guide and ensure the quality of these processes.
