Objectives and Competencies
The proposed doctoral programme has a triple academic, scientific and research interest, justified in the last two cases by the very nature of a doctoral programme and in all three by the objectives it aims to achieve:
- Specialised training of new researchers in the field of Chemical Engineering.
- Training of new university faculty members.
- Professional development of graduates with advanced degrees.
- Encouraging the formation of specialised research groups in the field of Chemical Engineering.
These objectives are aimed at enabling doctoral students to acquire a set of competencies, skills and abilities, described below.
BASIC COMPETENCIES
CB11 – Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of research skills and methods related to that field.
CB12 – Ability to conceive, design or create, implement and adopt a substantial process of research or creation.
CB13 – Ability to contribute to expanding the frontiers of knowledge through original research.
CB14 – Ability to carry out critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
CB15 – Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about their areas of knowledge, in the modes and languages customarily used in their international scientific community.
CB16 – Ability to foster, within academic and professional contexts, scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advancement in a knowledge-based society.
PERSONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
CA01 – Ability to navigate contexts where there is little specific information available.
CA02 – Ability to identify the key questions that need to be answered to solve a complex problem.
CA03 – Ability to design, create, develop and undertake novel and innovative projects within one's field of knowledge.
CA04 – Ability to work both in teams and independently in an international or multidisciplinary context.
CA05 – Ability to integrate knowledge, tackle complexity and formulate judgements based on limited information.
CA06 – Ability to critically defend intellectual solutions.
