Véronique Gély

Véronique Gély is Professor “classe exceptionnelle”, of Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne University and Director of the “Centre de Recherche en Littérature Comparée” (EA 4510). She holds a Ph.D. summa cum laude in Comparative Literature from the University of the Sorbonne. She was President of the Société française de Littérature Générale et Comparée (SFLGC) from 2011 to 2013.

Her extended critical work includes titles such as the award winning (Eve Delacroix Prize, silver medal, of the Académie Française for the monograph) La Nostalgie du moi. Écho dans la littérature européenne (2000) and L’invention d’un mythe: Psyché. Allégorie et fiction, du siècle de Platon au temps de la Fontaine (2006). She has also published with Gallimard the critical editions of Sophocle’s Électre (2021) and Jean Giraudoux’s Électre (2019), among other chapters in edited monographs, special issues of journals and articles in peer-reviewed journals,  the most recent ones being “Apuleius and The Golden Ass. Latin Novel, Universal Folktale, or Emblem of Globalized Literature?”, in A Companion to World Literature (2019) and “Souvenirs germaniques dans l’Électre de Jean Giraudoux: notes sur les versions primitives manuscrites de la pièce”, in Europaïsche Gründungsmythen im Dialog der Literaturen, éd. par Roland Ißler, Rolf Lohse, Ludger Scherer, Göttingen, V&R Unipress (2019). Gély holds since 2004 a bonus for scientific excellence (“PES, prime d’excellence scientifique”).

She has held and holds many editorial positions, including Co-director of the “Deutschland und Frankreich in wissenschaftlichen Dialog” series, Bonn, V&R Unipress since 2014, as well as of the Revue de Littérature Comparée since 2011. She is also the Founding Editor and Director of the “Littérature et Poétique comparées” series, Presses Universitaires de Paris 10 (2006-2008), Editor of the “Littérature Générale et Comparée” series since 2010 and Member of the advisory board of other series and journals including Amaltea (Universidad Complutense de Madrid).
