Fernando de Lucas y Murillo de la Cueva

Fernando de Lucas y Murillo de la Cueva is a Bachelor of Sociology and a Doctor of Political and Sociological Sciences from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he became a professor in 1995 until his transfer to Universidad de Alicante during the 2019-2020 academic year.

He is an Associate Professor of Social Work and Social Services at Universidad de Alicante, although he joined the Social Work and Social Services Department when he became University School Chair in 2002.

His work has been focused on social services and social policy, with various publications and research projects as well as social services and social policy related to migration, asylum, youth, innovation and e-learning.

At the same time, he gained experience in academic management from his positions of Vice Dean, Secretary and Dean of the School of Social Work at UCM, which was the first centre in Spain to adapt the bachelor's degree student body to the EHEA, as well as the only university school with a specific PhD programme in social work and then custodian of the first social work magazine in Spanish.

In 2017, he successfully brought the Conference organised by the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW) to said university school in 2019 (the first time in Spain) and was also the co-chair of its scientific committee.

In recent years, he has taken part in a European K2 project on development of the social services system and teaching social work in Albania and has led another project that concluded in 2020 with researchers from Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal on development of social policies in southern Europe.
