David Hernández de la Fuente

Professor in the Department of Classical Philology at the UCM, with a BA in Classical Philology, Hispanic Philology and Law, he obtained a PhD in Classical Philology and Social History in Ancient Times. His line of research focuses on Religion and Greek Mythology, Society and Literature in Late Antiquity, as well as on Classical Tradition and History of Platonism. Previously, he taught at UNED, Carlos III University of Madrid (2005-2009) and at Universität Potsdam (2009-2011). He is the author, co-author or editor of more than twenty books, and more than seventy articles and book chapters. He has been awarded with various distinctions, such as the “Fundación Pastor” Award for Classical Studies (2005), the Burgen Scholarship Award from the Academia Europaea (2014) or the Literature Awards of the Community of Madrid (2005) and the Valencia Regional Council (2010) and has received numerous postdoctoral research grants and scholarships from the most prestigious national and international programmes (“Juan de la Cierva” 2005, “José Castillejo” 2007, “Alexander von Humboldt” 2009, “Beatriu de Pinós” and “Ramón y Cajal” 2011). He was a researcher or visiting professor at Columbia University, Università di Firenze, CNRS (Paris), Akademie der Wissenschaften (Berlin), Université Paris-X Nanterre and Freie Universität Berlin, among other international institutions. He is member of different national and international research groups (GINEDIS, Bósforo, GIRPAM, ISTA, Nomos, Koinonía…), member of the editorial board of various scientific journals and monographic series and currently serves as editor-in-chief of the academic journal Estudios Bizantinos (Bizantine Studies).
