The Faculty of Chemical Sciences consists of five buildings, called A, B, C, D and Pilot Plant.

Buildings A and B

Buildings A and B house the professors' offices, the research laboratories and the students' practical laboratories. In addition, Building B houses the cafeteria, the self-service cafeteria, several computer rooms and some student classrooms. General services, such as the Secretary's Office, Dean's Office, Management, Erasmus Office, Student Delegation, Student Associations and Sports Club are located in Building A. The Faculty also has a WiFi zone which is signposted in all common areas.

Buildings C and D were already built in compliance with the criteria of universal accessibility and design for all, and the remaining buildings, built some time ago, have been modified to meet these criteria.

The faculty's practice laboratories have generalized extraction systems, and in some of them localized. They also have first aid elements such as eye wash, safety showers and first aid kits. For the use of certain chemical, biological and biosanitary agents, there are individual protection measures, such as safety goggles and masks.

The laboratories of the Faculty have safety cabinets and different types of fire extinguishers, conveniently marked, depending on the nature of the chemical products with which the laboratories work. The Faculty, through the University, processes the chemical waste produced both in the research laboratories and in the students' practical laboratories, according to their different characteristics and hazardousness. The University has contracted a waste removal service, which in the Faculty is managed by the Faculty Management. Waste is stored in properly located and labeled containers. This waste is removed periodically on the dates established by the Management.

 

Building C and classrooms

Building C is a modern building with 16 classrooms, all of which are equipped with the latest audiovisual equipment (projector connected to a computer) and Internet connection. The reprographic service is located on the entrance level.

The Faculty also has several classrooms in Building B, an Assembly Hall located in the basement of Building D, and a Main Auditorium in Building A. There are also two lecture halls (Buildings A and D, respectively) for the public defense of thesis, competitive examinations or the presentation of specialized seminars.

Building D: Library

The Library (located in Building D), which is part of the University's library network (BUC), is a modern building that, in addition to the reading rooms, with 254 seats, has rooms for group work and a media library. The library is covered by the University's wireless network and has a laptop lending service that can be connected to the wireless network and from which the different services of the BUC, including the Cisne catalog, can be consulted. Periodically, the library offers free training courses on the use of its services.

The library has five rooms for group work, where students can meet to carry out tasks that require commenting, sharing and discussing information.

Computer classrooms

The Faculty has four computer rooms, where students can perform a wide variety of tasks related to their classes, internships and academic work. They are governed by the operating rules approved by the Faculty Board, and are managed by the Dean's Office.

Three of the computer rooms are reserved for teaching and courses and seminars organized by the Faculty, while one of them is intended to be used by students to carry out academic work assigned by professors.

Virtual Campus

The UCM Virtual Campus (CV-UCM) extends the services and functions of the university campus through information and communication technologies (ICT). It is a set of spaces and tools on the Internet that support learning, teaching, research and teaching management, and are permanently available to all members of the university community. The CV-UCM is open to all faculty, administrative and service staff (PAS) and students of the Complutense University of Madrid who request it. It is accessible from any computer with Internet connection that has a Web browser and some minimum requirements.
