Noemí Ávila Valdés

Doctorate in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2005, Faculty of Fine Arts) and Degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Universidad Nacional a Distancia (Open University).

She is currently Full Professor and Academic Secretary of the Department of Language, Arts and Physical Education Teaching of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She has taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Education. Former coordinator of the University Master's in Artistic Education at Social and Cultural Institutions (2013-2017).

As a researcher, she is a member of the UCM GIMUPAI research group (with an excellent appraisal for transfer), and has participated in national R&D projects, and directed contracts under Article 83, innovation and learning-service projects for the development of artistic education in different formal and informal contexts, and in particular in the field of Art and Health. Particular mention should be made in this regard of the close ties with the regional health body at Madrid City Council, with which she has coordinated Article 83 projects, learning-service projects, postgraduate bursaries, exhibitions, seminars and publications for development of art in the healthcare community.

Research and teaching placements in Cork, Ireland, Malmö, Sweden, and Xalapa, Mexico, and currently involved in a European-funded Erasmus+ project (strategic associations).

She was associate editor of the journal Arte, Individuo y Sociedad (2013-2017) and has published articles and book chapters in academic journals and imprints of high impact, as well as being a guest contributor and speaker at international academic institutions and congresses.
