María Eugenia Toro-Troconis

Maria Eugenia Toro-Troconis is an online Education Consultant and strategist currently working as an International Consultant for different organisations of The United Nations: UNICEF Uzbekistan, UNESCO Peru and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Iraq.
She has more than 20 years’ experience working with several institutions across the UK, including 10 years as Senior Lecturer and Head of E-learning at the School of Medicine – Imperial College London.

Maria has produced several publications, including a chapter on the role of Blended Learning in the delivery of World Health Education as part of a systematic review of eLearning for Health Sciences Education led by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
She is the Founder and Director of the Learning Design Bootcamp and the author of the CoDesignS Learning Design Framework, which has been implemented in several universities in the UK. 

Maria has worked on several research activities focused on state-of-the- art technology in education, including the delivery of virtual patients in the virtual world of Second Life. This work was featured on CNN – Edge of Discovery in 2009. She also drove the Imperial College School of Medicine to become the first medical school in the UK to issue iPads to all its undergraduate medical students, supported by a learning and assessment mobile ecosystem. 

Maria is an evaluator and a board evaluation expert at the Hearings for the European Commission in the areas of Health, Education and Innovation. She was presented with the Rector’s Medal and the Award for Excellence in Supporting the Student Experience in 2014 at Imperial College London.

Maria is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Associate Editor of The Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET).
