Maite Vilalta Ferrer

PhD in Economic and Business Sciences from Universitat de Barcelona. She has been a technical partner and civil servant of the Economic and Finance Council of the Regional Government of Catalonia. She is currently an Associate Professor at Universitat de Barcelona and a member of the Instituto de Economía de Barcelona (IEB). She teaches on the Degree in Economics at the School of Economics and Business of UB, on the Inter-university Master’s Degree in Public Management (UAB - UPF - UB) and on the Master’s Degree in Regional and Local Treasury at UB, of which she is co-director.

She is the author of various studies and publications on fiscal federalism and regional and local treasury, including texts that discuss the problem of balancing resources between the governments that make up decentralised states and the matter of non-compulsory expenditure by municipal authorities. In 2013, she was a visiting professor at the School of Economics at McGill University (Montreal, Canada).

She sits on a number of advisory boards, including those of the Institut Català d’Avaluació de Polítiques Públiques (IVALUA), the Taula d’Entitats del Tercer Sector Social de Catalunya, the Fundació Catalunya-Europa, BIThabitat Plataforma d’Innovació Urbana de Barcelona and the Taula de Pressupostos i Fiscalitat en perspectiva de gènere de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona. She was a member of the Expert Group appointed by the Regional Government of Catalonia for calculating the fiscal balance and a representative of the Regional Government of Catalonia on the Joint Committee on State-Regional Government of Catalonia Transfers.

She was Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Business at UB (2004-2009) and is now Vice Dean of Equality and Social Action and General Secretary of the same university.
