Academic profile

A doctor from the University of Chicago (2002) and the Universidad de Salamanca (2008), Julio Vélez Sainz is a head professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, director of the Instituto del Teatro de Madrid and co-director of the Theatre Studies Seminar. He was a “Ramón y Cajal” research fellow at UCM and an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts (2002-2008). Visiting professor at Brown, Toulouse Le-Mirail, Georgia, Ambato (Ecuador) and Neuchâtel, he has published five monographs, six critical editions, 20 coordinated books, more than 100 articles and book chapters and more than 70 popular articles and reviews on classical and contemporary authors in both Spanish and English. He has directed six national and international R&D projects. His most recently published book is a critical edition on the theatre of Lucas Fernández (Madrid, Cátedra).
