Diana B. Wechsler

Diana B. Wechsler is a principal investigator of the CONICET (National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina). She directs the Institute for Research in Art and Culture of the National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) and she is the artistic director of the MUNTREF (Museum and Art Centers of the UNTREF). She designed and directs, with Aníbal Jozami, BIENALSUR, a global platform for contemporary art. She directs the Master's Degree in Curation in Visual Arts (UNTREF), and is a regular professor of Modern and Contemporary Argentine Art at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Buenos Aires.

She has received national and international scholarships and fellowships such as from the Ministry of Science of Spain and a postdoctoral fellowship from the Getty Foundation (LA-USA). She has developed the research and curated numerous exhibitions from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Peru, Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Among them, Novecento Sudamericano, relazioni artistiche tra Argentina, Brasile, Italia e Uruguay (2003); Territorios de diálogo: Madrid, México, Buenos Aires. Entre los realismos y lo surreal (2006); Argentinische Kunst in die Gegenwart (2010); Uncertain States (2016), and Constelaciones (2020).

She directs the journal Estudios Curatoriales and contributes to specialized magazines and publishing companies. Among her recent works stand out Bienalsur, bitácora de una experiencia (2018), the prologue for El museo imaginario (2017); Pensar con imágenes (with G. Didi-Huberman, A. Fernández Polanco, Yayo Aznar et al., 2015); Graciela Sacco, Nothing Is Where It Seems to Be (2015); Entre tiempos (2014); Boltanski Buenos Aires (2012); Desde el salón (Palais de Glace, 2012); Imágenes e historias (CNB, 2012); Reality and Utopia (ADK, Berlin 2010); Picasso, la mirada del deseo (2010), and Berni, la mirada intensa (2010).

She has received the AICA Award for the best critical essay (1998); the AICA Curator of the Year Award (Sao Paulo, 2003); a distinction for her research work from the Honorable Argentine Chamber of Deputies (2004) and the AICA Research Essay Award (2007). In 2009 she was named honorary member of the CAIA (Argentine Center of Art Researchers). She was also awarded with the Konex Art Essay Award (2014). Finally, she has been honored as a Chevalier des Palmes Academiques by the French Republic (2018).
