Antonio Garrido Rubia

Antonio Garrido is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Administration and Vice-Dean of the Law Faculty at the University of Murcia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the UNED and a doctor’s degree in political sciences from Complutense University of Madrid.

Publications

In the field of constitutional law and election law, he has published Presidencialismo Comparado: América Latina (Madrid: Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales, 2020), co-authored with Dieter Nohlen; Lógica, Derecho y Política. Bases para una metodología de las ciencias sociales (Navarra: Aranzadi/Thomson, 2010); Accountability, Democracia y Reforma Política en México (México: Siglo XXI, 2011); Elecciones y sistemas electorales presidenciales en América Latina (México: Porrúa, 2008), among others. Another work, Elecciones y Democracia, written also with Dieter Nohlen, is due for publication in 2021.

On the subject of comparative government and politics, he has written, among others, La gestión de la comunicación de crisis en la Administración Pública española (Madrid: INAP, 2017); Democracia, campaña y elecciones en México, 2012 (México, D.F., Limusa, 2014); Comunicación Política y Estrategias de Campaña: Candidatos, medios y electores en una nueva era (Buenos Aires: Biblos, 2011); La Conquista del Poder. Elecciones y campañas presidenciales en América Latina (Buenos Aires: La Crujía, 2008). Likewise, he has published various political science reference books.

Dr. Garrido is author and co-author of more than a hundred academic works. He has written fifty scientific publications as book chapters and articles on the subject of constitutional law and election law, being an internationally renowned specialist in both disciplines, as well as in political engineering and constitutional design. From the viewpoint of constitutional law and comparative law, he has published numerous books, articles and book chapters about the presidential, semi-presidential and parliamentary systems, coalitions, comparative government, etc. In the field of comparative electoral law, his studies include the presidential electorate systems, the electoral right to political participation, electoral integrity, etc.

Teaching and research

As a teacher, Dr. Garrido, has been granted with two six-year term of teaching activity and four trienniums. His research activity has been granted by the CNEAI with a six-year term (2002-2008) and with a subsequent term for the years 2013-2020, currently being in process of approval. He is a member of International Political Science Association (IPSA), AECPA and ALICE, and is the author of various lectures and papers presented at the most distinguished forums and international conferences of political science: International Political Science Association (IPSA), Association Française de Science Politique (AFSP), Asociación Española de Ciencia Política (AECPA), Sociedad Argentina de Análisis Político (SAAP), Asociación Uruguaya de Ciencia Política (AUCIP), Asociación Latinoamericana de Investigadores en Campañas Electorales (ALICE), etc. In them, he has participated as lecturer, organizer, chair and co-chair in panels and work groups, member of the scientific board, etc. Likewise, he has been a member of the editorial board of different indexed scientific journals like Política y Sociedad (Complutense University of Madrid), Política y Gobernanza (University of Granada) and Marco (University of Santiago), as well as of other journals from the University of Murcia.

As a researcher, he has taken part in multiple research projects and contracts financed by the most prestigious national institutions in the fields of criminal law, constitutional law and political science in competitive calls organized by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS), Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP), Fundación Séneca, etc.
