The students that are admitted and wish to register in the Programme can equally contact their assigned supervisors upon admission.

Proof of admission

Candidates who, for the purposes of scholarships or predoctoral contracts, need to provide proof of their admission to the Programme may receive a document signed by the Programme Coordinator and/or the Doctoral School, provided that the applicant meets the admission requirements and in accordance with the provisions of UCM regulations in force at the time.

Specific Requirements of the Programme

To ensure an appropriate assignment of a thesis supervisor, the programme invites candidates to get in touch in advance with one or several of the Faculty members during the application period (https://www.ucm.es/doctorado/doctorado-linguistica-inglesa/phd-web-community), and discuss with them the identification of a research gap that interests them, the potential study’s social relevance, its practical implications, theoretical value and/or methodological usefulness.

Candidates may specify keywords describing their research proposal. Faculty members of the research team may, for their part, sign a conditional acceptance of the prospective researcher. This document will be uploaded to the application. The programme coordination team can provide guidance to candidates in this regard (d9ay@ucm.es). The existence of an endorsement from a researcher who may act as the Director or Supervisor of the doctoral thesis will be taken into consideration. Please note that the endorsement by members of the research team is conditional upon the applicant obtaining a place in the programme and upon the decision of the Committee, in accordance with the applicable regulations.

All the students applying to this program should provide evidence of English C1 level. Regarding foreign students, all but native Spanish speakers, should also provide evidence of Spanish B2 level, attaching this information within the enrolment process.

Finally, the PhD in English Linguistics UCM Programme strongly recommends candidates to submit a short dissertation proposal / motivation letter to the UCM app.

This Programme recommends that candidates write a letter of motivation in English and upload it as an additional document with their application. The letter should not exceed one page in length and should be precise, clear, and relevant.
