Bridging modules and language accreditations


Previous knowledge and bridging modules

Candidates for the PhD EngLin-UCM Programme, either full-time or part-time, should prove:

  • They have detailed knowledge of theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches to linguistic analysis, such as cognitive linguistics, functional linguistics, computational and corpus linguistics, applied linguistics and discourse analysis, among others, as applied to the English language.
  •  They are capable of applying the tools provided by diverse linguistic theories to an in-depth analysis of English texts, both oral and written.
  • They have a good knowledge of available TICs, data-bases, computer assisted teaching and learning tools, as well as other related programmes.
  • They can apply information management tools: systematic compilation, organization, selection and synthesis of data.

Candidates admitted to the PhD-ENGLIN-UCM programme who may lack specific training in related contents and/or methodological approaches will be required to complete UP TO 18 CREDITS in bridging modules (as offered by MLIYCIN).

This requirement also affects candidates entering the Programme from professionally-oriented Master's courses.

Individual course plans will be offered to candidates by the Academic Committee on the recommendation of tutors and supervisors, taking into account specific training gaps, and
project goals.
