Improvements of the Quality Committee

The Quality Committee of the Doctoral Programme in English Linguistics has among its objectives to propose specific teaching and management improvements. In collaboration with the Coordination Commission, some of the improvements implemented are the following:

  1. Continuous updating of the website to make the contents clearer, more complete and accessible.
  2. Creation of a dynamic and virtual community on the website (https://www.ucm.es/doctorado/doctorado-linguistica-inglesa/phd-web-community)
  3. Social Media Management: Twitter (@PhDEnLingUCM) and WhatsApp of doctoral students
  4. Biannual organization of seminars for doctoral students
  5. Design of procedures for the monitoring and evaluation of training activities.
  6. Visibility and formalization of the Research Seminars that are held annually through web pages
  7. Elaboration and review of questionnaires to different groups used for internal surveys
  8. Formalization of OPE internship contracts
  9. Formalization of STAM-LAB
  10. Creation of the Basic Guide of the doctoral student
  11. Promotion of participation of doctoral students in Research Conferences
  12. Organization and management of UPCEL congresses
  13. Preparation of annual monitoring reports since 2018
  14. Preparation of reports for the renewal of the accreditation of the Program (UCM pioneer)
  15. Support for the training of the doctoral student, channelling in an agile and comfortable way for the doctoral student information on opportunities for publication of reviews and articles in specialized journals, participation in Congresses and organization of conferences and events.
  16. Promotion, development and improvement of seminars for doctoral students, organized by the students themselves. Consolidation of initiatives focused on doctoral students. Creation of Get Together, Green Get Together and Work Together seminars.
  17. Review and improvement of internal satisfaction questionnaires and their distribution among estates. Performing data analysis and tabulation.
  18. Promotion of the internal cohesion of the program with the participation of the directors in the workshops to improve the thesis proposal.
  19. Community promotion. Visibility of profiles of members of the research team, doctoral students and graduates due to the sustained updating of  the PhD Community section on the Web.
  20. Creation on Campus of a repository of academic videos regarding advanced research in English linguistics.
  21. Introduction of specific activities to promote sustainability and care for the environment (Ecomplutense Program)
  22. Maintenance of instant messaging group between doctoral students
  23. Restructuring of the training activity "Dissertation proposal improvement workshop": video presentations elaborated by first-year students, 3-minute oral defense, recruitment of panel respondents (experts affiliated to this PhD or other programmes) and panel facilitators.
  24. Data Analysis Appetizers Proposal. The seminary date is yet to be confirmed but if will take place during the first semester of 2023-2024. The objective is to present a series of tools (software programmes) for the organization, analysis and visualization of data. With the participation of seven experts, the seminary will answer questions such as “why do we use tools and software for research” and “which tools?"
  25. Information on the website regarding data protection, code of good conduct and confidentiality documents.
  26. II Data Analysis Seminar. It will take place in November 2024, it will also include a tailored-fit IA Workshop specifically meant for English linguistics researchers.
  27. I Career development Workshop, scheduled for October 2024, it has the aim to inform PHD students about job opportunities for linguists.
  28. Mock Viva. From April 16 2024, students about to defend their dissertations may ask for a Mock Viva. That is, the Programme will provide a mock viva experience, run by academics and freely attended by staff members, PhD candidates and friends.
