Theodoro C. Farhat is a PhD candidate in Portuguese Linguistics at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and in English Linguistics at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Spain. He holds a BA in Portuguese and Linguistics from USP, where he also completed an MA in Portuguese Linguistics. His doctoral research, conducted under the supervision of Paulo Roberto Gonçalves-Segundo (USP) and Jorge Arús Hita (UCM), focuses on developing a Systemic Functional Model of Argumentation. Between 2023 and 2024, Farhat carried out a research stay at the Complutense University of Madrid under the supervision of Christian M. I. M. Matthiessen.

Farhat's main research interests include Systemic Functional Linguistics, multimodality, sociopragmatics, and argumentation. His research has been funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) through undergraduate research, master's, overseas research, and doctoral scholarships. He is a member of the following research groups: SAL-Brazil, the Center for Critical Discourse Analysis at USP, and the DIA Project (Discourse, Interaction and Argumentation in Digital Media) at USP. He is also a member of the Brazilian Association of Linguistics and the Latin American Association of Systemic Functional Linguistics.

Farhat has served as an ad hoc peer reviewer for more than 50 manuscripts submitted to national and international academic journals, including DELTA, Revista do GEL, REDIS: Revista de Estudos do Discurso, Texto Livre: Linguagem e Tecnologia, Texto Digital, Linha D'Água, Estudos Linguísticos, Revista Eletrônica de Estudos Integrados em Discurso e Argumentação, and Linguistics and the Human Sciences. His reviewing activities include contributions to journals in linguistics, discourse studies, argumentation, language and technology, and related fields.

Currently, Farhat is a full-time PhD student at USP and UCM. He is also part of the technical team of the journal Linha D'Água (FFLCH-USP).
