I am a PhD candidate in English Linguistics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), supervised by Juan Pedro Rica and Arsenio Andrades. My doctoral research focuses on audiovisual translation, subtitle reception and age-related accessibility, with particular attention to elderly viewers with reduced reading speed in the Spanish VOSE context.

My dissertation, entitled “Subtitle Reception and Accessibility for Elderly Viewers with Reduced Reading Speed in the Spanish VOSE Context,” investigates how older viewers process conventional Spanish subtitles and explores whether adaptations to subtitle reading speed, segmentation and condensation can improve comprehension, reduce perceived cognitive effort and enhance the viewing experience.

My research adopts a mixed-methods, reception-oriented and experimental approach. The study focuses on adults aged 65 and over and combines reading-speed assessment, comprehension and recall tasks, questionnaires and qualitative reception data. My aim is to contribute to a better understanding of age-related variability in subtitle processing and to explore how professional subtitling practices may respond to the needs of older audiences.

Alongside my doctoral research, I work as an ESL teacher at Colegio Monte Tabor Schoenstatt, combining my teaching activity with my academic research. I have assisted to academic seminars and research activities related to my field and I have presented a brief recording about my doctoral research in a poster presentation last year. My current research interests include audiovisual translation, subtitling, subtitle reception, accessibility, ageing and reading processes, particularly in relation to the experience of older viewers in Spain.
