Andrea Cruz Blázquez is a second-year PhD student in the program of English Linguistics at Complutense University of Madrid, under the joint supervision of Dr. Daniel Martín González and Dr. Juan Antonio Latorre García. Prior to joining the programme, she completed her Undergraduate Degree in English Studies (2024) from the University Complutense of Madrid and obtained a Master’s Degree in Literary Translation (2025) from the same institution.

She is currently combining her PhD studies with a scholarship to work as Intern at the Erasmus and Internationalisation Office of the Faculty of Physics at UCM, from September 2025 onwards. Furthermore, since July 2026, she is in charge of renovating the Faculty of Physics’ International webpage, working closely with the Dean’s team at the faculty.

PhD Dissertation Preliminary Title: Retranslating Nightwood: A Comparative Study of Djuna Barnes’s Novel and its Spanish Translations.

The topic of her doctoral thesis stems from a passion for modernist literature, and through it she aims to reflect on retranslation as a means of cultural promotion and literary reimagination. Her main research areas of interest are Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. To evidence that and as part of her educational and academic process, she has attended some congresses and seminars as ponent:

The most significant one of them is the 1st International Congress on Literary Confluences between the Hispanic and Anglo-Saxon Worlds “De guiris y castizos” at UCM (September 2023), which led to her first academic publication:
