Biography

I hold a BA in Translation and a double BA in Communication and Tourism from the University of Granada. I also completed a MA in Teaching, which allowed me to be granted Qualifying Teaching Status (QTS) in the UK in 2014.

Currently I am working as an Assistant Language Tutor in Modern Languages at the University of Birmingham. Before taking this position in 2018, I taught at Cardiff University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. 

Research

My current research focus is on the linguistic construction of the Spanish identity through the discourse of transnational cinema in English and Spanish.

As part of my PhD I have completed two different research stays. On the one side, in 2016 I spent three months under the supervision of Professor Sally Faulkner as a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Exeter. On the other, during the entire academic year 2014-2015, I was a Visiting Graduate Student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the supervision of Professor Barbara Zecchi.

I am a core member of the ‘Gynocine Project: Feminism, Genders and Cinemas’ since 2014. More recently I have started to peer-review abstracts for the ‘Colloque VocUM’, which takes place every year at the University of Montreal. So far I have presented papers on the linguistic construction of identity, Spanish stereotyped images and clichés, the reception of Spanish accents in English-speaking productions and the translation of cultural images through film subtitles.
