Margarita García Romero

My name is Margarita García Romero and I am pursuing a PhD in English Linguistics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I graduated in English Philology at UCM as well. As an undergraduate student I spend a year at Manchester University as part of the Erasmus program. I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate (DEA) in English Studies, Cognition and Interculturality.

I am currently researching on the use of food terms as source domains to conceptualize the person we love in Spanish and in comparison with English. My work is being supervised by Gitte Kristiansen, and my main areas of research are Cognitive Metaphor Theory, cognitive simile, sociolinguistics and semantic variation.

I have more than 15 years’ experience as a teacher and as a linguist consultant in Spain and abroad (USA and Mexico). I have taught English as a foreign language in private companies and Spanish at a university level. I am a member of PROEL (Promotora Española de Lingüística) and of ILV. AC (SYL Mexican branch) and I teach Sociolinguistics with them in an intensive Applied Linguistics Course at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in México.

Other fields of my interest are minority religious group rights, indigenous languages in Mexico and Mexican textiles. More information about me: https://marggarc.wixsite.com/garciaromero and if you want to contact me, please write to  marggarc@ucm.es.
