Information 


Francisco Arques is an Architect Doctor and Hired Doctor in the Department of Architectural Projects. He has been Director of the International Center for Cultural Heritage Studies CIESPC-UPM (in Spanish). He coordinated the Doctoral Program in Architectural Projects between 2008-13.

He has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Valparaíso, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP), Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino, among others. He was a Scholar of the Academy of Spain in Rome between 1991-1992.

Among his recent research projects, works on cultural landscapes stand out, with special attention to those related to mining and the energy industry, such as the Landscape Study of Puertollano mining area in Ciudad Real. Also noteworthy is the curator, along with Juan Miguel Hernández León, of the exhibition "Design America: the Spanish layout of the United States" at the National Library of Spain.

His scientific production focuses on the architecture and landscape of the twentieth century. Among his latest works, the book The Matter of Architecture stands out, as well as several monographic titles about the architect Miguel Fisac. His articles have been published in scientific magazines such as Arquitectura Viva, REIA, Ábaco, ON Diseño, L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui, Cuadernos de Proyectos Arquitectónicos [Notebooks on Architectural Projects], Formas [Forms] o Arquitectura [Architecture]
