Admission


Admission Requirements

1.- Follow the steps of the application procedure at KU Leuven website (coordinating university of the program). The student must be accepted at Leuven in order to begin the BAES.

This procedure is required to be accepted in any of the start universities of BAES as "Start University"

2.- To comply with the national and regional Spanish law, students that have been conditionally admitted at UCM as start university must follow an extra pre-inscription application. This procedure is different according to your previous studies:

  • Studies in Spain that give access to the University:  
  • Studies in the European Union that give access to the University and if your family has residence in Spain:  
  • Studies in the European Union that give access to the University and if your family has not residence in Spain or Non-European studies that give you access to the University:   

Language Requirements (*)

An English language certificate will be required, all applicants must prove their English language proficiency.

The programme accepts the following tests as a proof of English proficiency:

  • TOEFL iBT (Test at test centre o Test at home). Minimum score 90 overall with no subscore below 20 (equivalent scores on the new TOEFL score scale as of 21/01/2026: Reading 4, Listening 4.5, Speaking 4, Writing 4)
  •  IELTS Academic Test (taken on computer, online or paper). Minimum score 6.5 (with no subscore below 5.5)
  • ESOL Cambridge (CAE/CPE). Minimum score 176 overall (with no subscore below 169)
  • PTE Academic. Minimum score 59 (with no subscore below 53)
  •  ITACE C1 or C2 

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above mentioned tests is only possible in one of the following cases:
1. Applicants who hold a secondary education degree or higher education degree obtained in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA; the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they can prove that the entire study was completed in English.
2. Applicants holding an American secondary education degree obtained outside the USA but accredited by the four accreditation bodies indicated here: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/apply/requested-documents/eligibility-bachelor

(*) Spanish language requirement is not necessary for international students who apply to this programme, but may be required for specializations (majors) and internships.
