Recommended entry profile

Students with sufficient translation training, with a desire to assimilate a considerable amount of knowledge (theoretical and practical) related to translation, particularly in relation to the branches of localisation and audiovisual translation and, in general, translation technologies, with the capacity for analysis and synthesis to produce work in these fields, and with a high level in the corresponding intellectual processes: analysis, conceptualisation, terminology and writing. It is considered essential to have at least CEFR level C1 in both Spanish and English.

There are three recommended entry profiles (in order of priority):

  • Graduates in translation and interpreting, and equivalent qualifications, with good IT skills. (Important: students with this degree do not need to provide a certificate of English language level C1; the academic transcript is sufficient proof.   • Graduates in modern languages or English studies with good IT and translation skills. (Important: students with this degree do not need to provide a certificate of English language level C1; the academic transcript is sufficient proof. If the platform requires you to upload your language certificate, please upload your transcript again)

  • Graduates in computer science, engineering and equivalent degrees with good translation skills. (Important: you will need to provide a valid certificate of language level C1 in English and C1 in Spanish, if it is not your mother tongue)

Candidates must therefore provide documentary evidence of having obtained these degrees and diplomas in accordance with EU regulations.

 

Admission criteria for the Inter-University Master's Degree in Audiovisual Translation and Localisation

There is no specific entrance exam for the Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Translation and Localisation. The Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Translation and Localisation is recommended for graduates in translation and interpreting, modern languages or English studies, as well as in computer science or engineering. The above are considered preferential degrees, although other entry routes from the humanities and social sciences may be considered, due to the nature of the studies, as well as the presumed access of students from other countries. The languages to be used in the training process will be mainly Spanish and English, therefore, in the case of non-native speakers, a C1 level of Spanish and a C1 level of English must be accredited, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

In any case, the Master’s Academic Committee, responsible for the admission process, may, when it deems appropriate, conduct an interview with the candidates in order to proceed to a more appropriate assessment of their supposed merits. This interview will in no case provide additional points, but will serve to check certain merits and, in particular, the language level of non-Spanish-speaking candidates. This interview may be conducted by videoconference or similar means.

The following profiles will be taken into account for the assessment of the section “Suitability of the candidate’s profile to the objectives and contents of the programme”:

  • Profile of students from translation and interpreting, and other equivalent degrees, with good IT skills.

  • Profile of students from modern languages or English studies with good IT and translation skills.

  • Profile of students from computer science, engineering and other equivalent degrees with good translation skills.

These profiles will be valued at 30%.

In the case of candidates who do not meet the recommended academic profile, but whose curricular (professional) background is related to the specific nature of the master’s degree, this aspect will be valued at 40%.
