Julia Rojo de Castro

Julia Rojo de Castro is a postgraduate student at Complutense University of Madrid, where she obtained a Degree in English Studies in 2020 (top of her class and Extraordinary Award recipient) and is currently pursuing a Master’s in North American Studies (joint program with Franklin Institute, University of Alcalá). As an undergraduate, she enjoyed an Erasmus+ Scholarship at John St. John University (England, 2018–2019), several Excellence Grants for outstanding academic achievement, and the Scholarship for Collaboration in University Departments (2019–2020), awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education. The latter allowed her to become colaboradora honorífica (assistant) at the Complutense Department of English Studies, thus undertaking a number of undergraduate teaching hours in the academic year 2020–2021.

Since September 2021 she serves as assistant editor in the Journal of Artistic Creation and Literary Research (JACLR), where she has previously published. Her undergraduate dissertation was also published in the institutional archive E-Prints Complutense for being awarded Honours. Additionally, she has been granted a JAE Intro scholarship (2021–2022), awarded by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) for traineeship at the Institute of Language, Literature and Anthropology (ILLA), which she will carry out from October 2021 under the supervision of Purificación Fernández Rodríguez. In this respect, her work shall be comprehended within the Grupo de Investigación sobre Cultura, Edición y Literatura en el Ámbito Hispano (siglos XIX-XXI) - GICELAH (Research Group on Culture, Publishing and Literature in Hispanic Contexts, 19th–21st centuries) and the academic platform Ibero-American Editors and Publishers (19th–21st Centuries) – EDI-RED. Beginning in 2022–2023, she hopes to pursue further studies in the US thanks to a Postgraduate Fellowship Abroad from La Caixa Foundation.

Her academic interests revolve around contemporary English and American literature, particularly postmodernism. She is specially drawn to the study of discursive formations and their iteration, transfiguration or contravention across different literary periods and genres, at both thematic and formal levels. For this reason, she tries to incorporate approaches such as poststructuralism, neohistoricism, narratology or psychoanalysis, in an attempt to map ideological, historical and sociocultural connections between the different authors and works she analyses.  Contact: juliaroj@ucm.es     See also: https://ajif-ucm.academia.edu/JuliaRojodeCastro
