2 Junio 2026. Se ha hecho pública la propuesta provisional de los Premios Extraordinarios de Doctorado correspondientes a las tesis defendidas en la Facultad de Matemáticas durante el curso 2023/2024. Los candidatos propuestos son Daniel Luis Rodríguez Vidanes, antiguo miembro del IMI, y María Janenada Malagón, actualmente vinculada al Instituto. Desde aquí queremos expresar nuestra más sincera enhorabuena tanto a Daniel como a María, así como a sus directores de tesis: Krzysztof Ciesielski, Gustavo Muñoz y Juan Seoane, en el caso de Daniel, y Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan y Leandro Pardo, en el caso de María. Cabe señalar que Gustavo Muñoz, Juan Seoane y Leandro Pardo son miembros del IMI, mientras que Krzysztof Ciesielski forma parte del Comité Científico Externo.

6) Integral Challenge
Estimulado por el éxito del concurso “Premio de Integración Rápida”, el IMI ha decidido poner en marcha una sección específica dedicada al siempre desafiante tema de la integración. Más que proponer integrales (indefinidas) de resolución rápida, el propósito de esta sección es plantear tipos de integrales interesantes que estén profundamente vinculadas con múltiples áreas de las matemáticas, desde la teoría de funciones especiales hasta problemas geométricos y métodos numéricos. Algunas de las integrales propuestas están lejos de poder resolverse mediante métodos convencionales; por el contrario, requieren una combinación de diferentes enfoques e incluso el uso de técnicas más sofisticadas. No obstante, esperamos que los lectores se diviertan tanto resolviendo estos desafíos como los editores al proponerlos.
Stimulated by the succcessful competition “Premio de Integración Rápida”, the IMI has decided to initiate a specific section concerning the always challenging subject of integration. More than quickly-to-be-solved (indefinite) integrals, the purpose of this section is to propose interesting types of integrals that are deeply connected with many areas of mathematics, from the theory of special functions to geometric problems and numerical methods. Some of the integrals proposed are far from being solved by a standard method, but require a combination of different approaches and even the use of more sophisticated techniques. However, it is hoped that the readers have as much fun in solving the challenges as the Editors in proposing them.
