ERASMUS Welcome Course
Course Details
Erasmus students who, during their stay at the Complutense University, wish to improve their Spanish level, can enroll in one free Spanish course for Erasmus students. These courses are offered at the beginning of each semester by the Centro Complutense para la Enseñanza del Español (CCEE).
The courses are aimed at students with levels from A1 to B2. The level of each student will be determined at the beginning of each -course, through a compulsory placement test. However, it is recommended that all Erasmus students have at least a B1 level before their arrival in Madrid, in order to achieve a better academic performance during their stay at UCM.
Students with a C1 or C2 level can opt for other courses at the CCEE, with reduced prices for Erasmus students. More information about Spanish courses on the CCEE website.
The next course will take place in July 2026. It will be taught online. Only Erasmus students who will be studying at the Complutense University during the academic year 2026-2027 and who have a level lower than C1 can take this course. The only requirement to enroll in the course is to apply online as a future Erasmus student at UCM.
Spanish Course Contents
The content of the course will depend on the level. In all of them you will be able to:

Advice on how to become fluent in spoken language.

Instruction on how to produce written text in Spanish.

Opportunities to suggest your own topics to be discussed in class.
All course materials will be shared via the UCM Virtual Campus, so students must register on the platform and obtain a UCM email address.
Detailed instructions will be sent after the placement test is completed.
Teaching Staff
All teachers are university graduates and specialists in Spanish language teaching.
Level Test
Date: The online level test will be available from Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, to Wednesday, June 24th, 2026.

- Remember that it is a 45-minute multiple-choice test, intended to assess the student's Spanish proficiency and place the student in the appropriate group and course level.
- To access the UCM Virtual Campus, students will be required an UCM email account. The International Relations Office will send detailed instructions to activate it,
Course Certificate
Once the course has finished and if you have attended regularly, you will receive a certificate of the number of hours attended at the corresponding level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). No ECTS credits will be given or recognized.
To obtain the attendance certificate, students must have participated in 80% of the total amount of teaching hours. The certificate of attendance will be mailed to you upon completion of the course.
Students willing to improve their skills in Spanish language and get an official certificate with grades and ECTS credits, could take a Spanish course for foreign students at the UCM in our “Centro Complutense para la Enseñanza del Español - CCEE” (Complutense Centre for Spanish Teaching):
Students who wish to obtain an official certificate of their competence in the Spanish language will have to take a DELE and SIELE (Official Certification of Cervantes Institute):
Enrolment Process
Requirements
- Being an Erasmus student at UCM during the 2026-2027 academic year or during the first semester.
- Spanish level: below C1 level. Therefore, students with a C1 or C2 level will not be enrolled in the UCM free Spanish courses.
Inscription
- To have applied online as an Erasmus student (from the UCM for the first semester or the whole year at the International Relations Office. In this application you must check the box of the Spanish course.

**The recommended level for Erasmus students at the Universidad Complutense at the beginning of the course is at least an intermediate B1. This will facilitate your integration in the classes and in Spain’s way of life. If your level of Spanish is lower, we recommend that you take a Spanish course before coming to Madrid

- 40 teaching hours: 15 days during three weeks
