Nuestras líneas de investigación se centran en el estudio de la biogénesis de la pared celular fúngica y los mecanismos que regulan la integridad de esta estructura a varios niveles:

1) Caracterización de respuestas de adaptación a situaciones de estrés sobre la pared celular y su regulación a través de rutas de MAPK, especialmente la ruta de Integridad Celular (CWI)

2) Control de la expresión génica a través de la ruta de MAPK (CWI)

3) Caracterización de proteínas implicadas en la remodelación de la pared celular

 Dado que estas respuestas se disparan en presencia de antifúngicos inhibidores de β-1,3-glucan-sintasa, la caracterización de los mecanismos moleculares implicados es fundamental, no solo para entender procesos biológicos básicos sobre la dinámica de la pared, sino para identificar potenciales dianas terapeúticas con la posibilidad de combinar terapias sinérgicas utilizando inhibidores de la síntesis de β-1,3-glucano, junto con fármacos que inhiban los mecanismos de adaptación.

Our research focuses on the study of the biogenesis of the fungal cell wall and the mechanisms regulating the integrity of this structure at several levels:

1) Characterization of adaptive responses to cell wall stress and its regulation through MAPK routes, especially the Cell Wall Integrity pathway (CWI)

2) Control of gene expression through the MAPK pathway (CWI)

3) Functional characterization of proteins involved in cell wall remodeling

Since these responses are triggered in the presence of antifungal inhibitors of β-1,3-glucan synthase, the characterization of the molecular mechanisms involved is essential not only for understanding basic biological processes on the dynamics of the wall, but to identify potential therapeutic targets for synergistic therapies using synthetic inhibitors of β-1,3-glucan, with drugs that inhibit the adaptation mechanisms.
