The AEC Awards Its 2026 Plaques of Honor to Distinguished Individuals and Institutions Committed to Science Spanish Association of Scientists

The Association of Spanish Scientists (AEC) has decided to award the 2026 AEC Plaques of Honor, an award designed to recognize scientific excellence, the promotion of research, the dissemination of knowledge, and the contribution of entities and organizations to the scientific and technological development of society.

In the Outstanding Scientists category, the AEC has recognized the careers and contributions of three leading figures in Spanish science:

Dr. María Vallet Regí, professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), for her outstanding research work and her pioneering contribution in the field of biomaterials.

Dr. Ana Isabel Becerro Nieto, a research scientist at the Institute of Materials Science in Seville, for her significant contributions to our understanding of biological and biomimetic materials.

Dr. Francisco Juan Martínez Mojica, from the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alicante (UA), for his fundamental contributions to the discovery and development of the CRISPR system, one of the most significant scientific advances of recent decades.
