The Group of María Vallet-Regi, GIBI, organized the activity “Smart Materials: are the new biomaterials of Science fiction?” in the framework of the European Researchers´ Night 2016, an action funded by Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program (Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions). Over 250 European cities celebrated this Research Night. In Madrid, 20 prestigious Research Institutions organized 36 selected activities. Complutense University took the honor of organizing 4 of these activities.
In “Smart Materials: are the new biomaterials of Science fiction?” hundreds of visitors visited the laboratories of the Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry Department. There, under the guidance of Maria Vallet Group members, they could learn about the development of devices in Nanomedicine and Tissue Engineering, as well as seeing a modern 3D printer, newcomer to the lab. Before the visit, the visitors watched a video summarizing the work in progress at Vallet Group, carried out specifically for the event by the Scientific Divulgation Platform. The video explained what the drug nanocarriers are, how they are manufactured and how they can be used to fight against diseases such as cancer. It was remarkable the high participation and interest of all the visitors, not only of those coming from Secondary Schools, whose teachers demanded new opportunities to visit the research lab of a group which is world reference in Nanomedine and bone regeneration.
