Oral and written communication in English for Tourism contexts.



Requisitos

Conocimiento avanzado de la lengua inglesa, en correlación con los conocimientos adquiridos en cursos anteriores.

Advanced knowledge of the English language, building on the knowledge acquired in previous courses.

Objetivos

Los alumnos deben desarrollar la capacidad de manejar con corrección y eficacia, tanto oralmente como por escrito, la lengua inglesa en contextos relacionados con el Turismo.

Students are expected to develop the ability to use English accurately and effectively, both orally and in writing, in contexts related to the tourism industry.



Contenido

La asignatura se articula alrededor de cuatro tipos de contenidos:
1.- Comunicación oral y escrita: presentaciones, planificación, establecimiento de relaciones, organización de una reunión, elaboración de información, descripciones, argumentaciones, entrevistas de trabajo, redacción de distintos tipos de cartas. Todo ello en contextos turísticos.
2.- Aspectos socio-culturales: estudio de las costumbres, normas, hábitos y diferencias con otras culturas, todo ello desarrollado en contextos turísticos.
3.- Estrategias de resolución de problemas en el ámbito turístico debido a interferencias culturales y lingüísticas
4.- Funcionamiento de la lengua:  fonología, morfología, sintaxis, léxico, ortografía, etc. 


The course is structured around four main areas of content:

  1. Oral and Written Communication: presentations, planning, relationship building, meeting organisation, information delivery, descriptions, argumentation, job interviews, and the writing of different types of correspondence. All of these skills are developed within tourism-related contexts.
  2. Sociocultural Aspects: the study of customs, social norms, habits, and cultural differences, with a particular focus on their relevance to the tourism industry.
  3. Problem-Solving Strategies in Tourism: the development of strategies to address problems arising from cultural and linguistic differences in tourism-related contexts.
  4. Language Systems: the study of the English language, including phonology, morphology, syntax, vocabulary, spelling, and other key linguistic features.

Evaluación

Evaluación:
La evaluación tendrá un carácter continuo y formativo, y podrá realizarse tanto a nivel individual como grupal, según la naturaleza de las actividades formativas planteadas. Los criterios de evaluación (formulación y pesos) quedarán establecidos de la siguiente forma:
- Prueba final escrita*: 30% (obligatoria)
- Trabajos y presentaciones: 70%:
a. Presentación oral**: 10% (obligatoria)
b. Prácticas***: 50%
c. Participación y actitud****: 10%
*Para hacer media con el resto de las calificaciones, será necesario obtener una calificación mínima de al menos 4 puntos sobre 10 en la prueba final escrita.
**Para hacer media con el resto de las calificaciones, será necesario aprobar la presentación oral.
***Realización de ejercicios, pruebas y trabajos individuales o en grupo.
****Se exige al estudiante la participación activa, seguimiento de las clases, un comportamiento respetuoso y adecuado, y la entrega de las tareas. Esta parte de la evaluación no es recuperable en la convocatoria extraordinaria.

Assessment:
Assessment will be continuous and formative in nature and may be carried out both individually and in groups, depending on the nature of the learning activities. The assessment criteria (percentages and structure) are established as follows:
- Final written exam*: 30% (compulsory)
- Assignments and presentations: 70%
a. Oral presentation**: 10% (compulsory)
b. Practical work***: 50%
c. Participation and attitude****: 10%
*In order to be averaged with the rest of the marks, a minimum score of 4 out of 10 in the final written exam is required.
**In order to be averaged with the rest of the marks, the oral presentation must be passed.
***Completion of exercises, tests, and individual or group assignments.
****Students are expected to participate actively, engage with the lessons, behave respectfully and appropriately, and submit all assigned tasks. This component of the assessment is not recoverable in the resit examination period.
