UCM Extraordinary Chair Program "Drogas Siglo XXI"

Extensive knowledge of the international monitoring system regarding drugs and Domestic Legal Systems (Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua and UE). The main researcher, with more than 25 years of experience, served as:

  • General Director of the Drugs National Plan.
  • Magistrate at the Spanish National Court.
  • Consultant for international organizations and also delivered legal opinions for public and private institutions.
  • Member of monitoring preliminary drafts in lawmaking committees.

How does it work

  • Preparation of legal opinions, draft reports and materials for lawmaking processes.
  • Knowledge transfer and dissemination activities.
  • Training and teaching activities and lectures given by a qualified research team with a multidisciplinary background (Social and Health Sciences).

Advantages

Legal advice, materials and actions undertaken by experienced researchers with extensive international networks. Some of them participate as experts at the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) and UN General Assembly Special Session on Drugs, UNGASS 2016.

Where has it been developed?

The research has been mainly conducted in UCM, Cátedra (Chair) Extraordinaria Drogas Siglo XXI  and recently within the framework of the research project DER 2016-74872-R, (Challenges) International monitoring of drugs and Domestic Legal Systems, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Innovation.

And also

A multidisciplinary team of professionals who are also members of the Chair and research project with experience in Criminal and International Law, Sociology and Economics. They work closely with health experts on medical cannabis and collaborate with international networks.
