PhD Position (FPI) – Experimental Super-Resolution Microscopy – University of Barcelona

 

We are pleased to announce an open 4-year fully funded PhD position (FPI) at the Department of Applied Physics, University of Barcelona, within the project PID2025-170221NB-I00 – Beam Engineering and Acousto-Optic Control for Optical Nanoscopy (BEACON), funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).

 

The PhD project will focus on the development of advanced optical instrumentation for super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, with particular emphasis on AOD-based MINFLUX microscopy and the parallelization of RESOLFT microscopy. The project is predominantly experimental and involves the development and characterization of novel optical systems for fluorescence imaging.

 

Candidate profile:

MSc in Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Strong interest in experimental optics and photonics.

Programming skills (Python, MATLAB or similar) are desirable.

 

Gross salary:

4-year FPI predoctoral contract.

Years 1–2: €19,000/year

Years 3–4: €25,500/year
