Oferta de trabajo para ingeniero de firmware
30 jun 2026 - 21:38 CET
Job description - R1 researchers/engineer:
The HEP group at University of Oviedo is looking for a firmware engineer to join our team and work on our ERC Starting Grant project INTREPID. The INTREPID project aims to enhance the trigger capabilities to enable the discovery of long-lived particles at the HL-LHC and beyond. To this end, we will use a multidisciplinary approach involving advanced machine learning techniques and top-of-the-line ultra-fast processing platforms to propose an innovative solution that will improve the capabilities of future trigger systems. The HEP group plays a leading role in the phase-2 upgrade work for the L1 trigger upgrade. It is also involved in several physics analyses including long-lived particle searches. The engineer works in a group consisting of several faculty, research scientists, and students, and collaborates closely with several international institutions.
The individual must work comfortably in a multi-tasking environment, collaborate, and consult, with other engineers and physicists as well as students and postdoctoral researchers. Candidates should have a master’s degree in electronics engineering or in a closely related discipline, or equivalent degree, be highly motivated to join a multidisciplinary team and excited to work in an international collaborative environment.
Experience on some of the following will be considered a plus:
- Machine learning interference in FPGAs
- Firmware design for large FPGAs and / or multi-gigabit serial optical links
- Knowledge of firmware design languages such as HLS, Verilog, VHDL, and Vivado.
Duties will include the following:
- Oversee the group’s electronic facility lab and support the group’s effort in developing hardware, firmware, and software for fast decision-making and data acquisition electronic systems.
- Management of all equipment and setup the demonstrator.
- Support the firmware programming of the reconstruction algorithms developed in the group.
The candidate is expected to participate in the development of reconstruction algorithms for the muon L1 trigger upgrade of the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The position is initially for 2 years (starting date in October). A total brut salary of 2000 EUR / month is foreseen. The candidate is expected to be based at Oviedo with stays at CERN in case they are needed.
Interested candidates should submit via email, to Prof. Santiago Folgueras (folguerassantiago@uniovi.es), the following documentation:
1. Motivation letter,
2. Curriculum vitae,
3. at least two letters of reference.
Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled.
Santiago (for the University of Oviedo’s HEP group).
