Mini2P: Miniaturized Two-Photon Microscopy for Biomedical Imaging
The Biophotonics & Smart Imaging Lab (BIOSIM) at the Institute of Optics “Daza de Valdés” (CSIC), Madrid is offering a JAE Intro 2026 research opportunity for undergraduate or master’s students interested in biophotonics, biomedical imaging, and optical technologies (Project JAEINT26_EX_0304/VIDA).

The selected student will join the project:
Mini2P: Miniaturized Two-Photon Microscopy for Biomedical Imaging
Two-photon microscopy is a powerful technique for high-resolution imaging inside biological tissues, widely used in neuroscience, ophthalmology, and biomedical research. However, conventional systems are often bulky and complex. This project aims to develop and validate a compact two-photon fluorescence microscope, contributing to the next generation of portable biomedical imaging devices.

What you will do:
During the internship, the student will gain hands-on experience in:
- Integration and alignment of a compact two-photon microscope
- Optical characterization (resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, field of view, stability)
- Benchmarking against conventional microscopy systems
- Biological imaging experiments with fluorescent samples
- Quantitative image analysis for biomedical imaging applications
The project offers training in advanced photonics instrumentation, with close mentoring and access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
