Lines of Research: Main Topics
Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) for Wastewater Treatment.
Caprolactam Production Process. Purification of cyclohexanone.
Objectives: To improve the quality of the ε-caprolactam, precursor monomer of nylon 6, by acting between the steps subsequent to obtaining the mixture cyclohexanol / cyclohexanone and before the oxidation step. Furthermore, it is within the scope to improve energy efficiency and optimize the use of raw materials.
Environmental Applications of Electrochemical Engineering.
Objectives: Development of innovative hybrid technologies, combing preconcentration and electrochemical processes to achieve efficient pollutant removal while minimizing energy consumption, chemical demand and secondary waste generation.
Micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) Removal from Compost and Water.
Objectives: Development an advanced, environmentally-friendly and inexpensive processes for the extraction of MNPs from sludge-derived compost. Application of Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) to the treatment of wastewater containing MNPs.
Soil and Groundwater Remediation by In Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) and Reduction (ISCR) Processes.
Objectives: Use of chemical agents (oxidants, reductives and additives) in the remediation of water and soils contaminated with toxic organic compounds in unsaturated and saturated zones of contaminated soil. Selecting the optimal conditions for a better efficiency of the reactants and additives used.
