Madrid of the Austrias Tour

Description: The guided tour of the Madrid of the Austrias will explore the main areas of
the city that existed during the Habsburg monarchy. We will study a period of Madrid
that is still present in many of its streets today through engaging anecdotes and stories.
Our tour will begin in the Plaza Ramales. From there, we will go to the Real Monasterio
de la Encarnación (Royal Monastery of the Incarnation), where we will tell you about
the blood of Saint Pantaleon. We will then return to the Plaza de Oriente, with its
memorable equestrian statue, and to the Royal Palace, where the Royal Alcázar used
to be, which was the residence of the Habsburgs since Philip II. We will then walk
through the Calle Mayor, which was the most important street of the Madrid of the
Habsburgs, but which also carries overwhelming memories of later times. We will stop
by the Plaza de la Villa to get to know its history and see some of the city’s most
emblematic buildings, like the old City Council. Passing by the Market of San Miguel,
we will walk around the Plaza Mayor and tell you some anecdotes about the oldest
Madrid in the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada. Finally, in the Plaza de la Provincia, we will see
the old Cárcel de Corte, and from there we will walk to the Plaza Mayor, where our tour
will end after we tell you some incredible facts about this emblematic place in Madrid.
