WUST–Madrid Complutense Institute (WMCI)

The Complutense University of Madrid and Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) of China establish the WMCI, an academic alliance to promote cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

A strategic cooperation between universities in China and Spain, the WMCI drives progress in Artificial Intelligence and other key fields such as Data Science through degree programs jointly developed and recognized by both institutions. This collaboration promotes research, the training of globally minded professionals, and the strengthening of academic ties, fostering educational excellence in an international environment of innovation and shared knowledge.

Located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province and the largest city in central China, Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) is a local high-level university jointly established by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education of PRC. It is also co-established by the People's Government of Hubei Province.

It has been accredited as the key university to launch the national Double First-Class Initiative of Hubei Province. It has been nominated by the Ministry of Education of PRC as a National Exemplary University for Reform in Undergraduate Training for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Base for Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements and Technology Transfer as well as an Innovation Talent Training Demonstration Base by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is also designated as a Pilot University for Intellectual Property by the National Intellectual Property Administration and a Double Innovation Demonstration Base and Exemplary Base for Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hubei Province.




Global Education in AI and Data Science

The WUST–Madrid Complutense Institute (WMCI), founded in 2024 by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST), is officially accredited by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The WMCI offers undergraduate programs with dual academic recognition. The degrees include: Bachelor’s in Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor’s in Applied Data Science, and Bachelor’s in Applied Statistics. The project ensures significant academic mobility of UCM faculty to China.

The initiative directly involves the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Statistical Studies of UCM, guaranteeing academic excellence and international projection.

Academic and Research Cooperation

The WMCI serves as a platform for academic cooperation between UCM and WUST, encompassing both teaching and research. The two universities collaborate in areas such as computer science, data science, and statistics, promoting student and faculty exchanges, joint teaching programs, and collaborative research projects.

Outlook and Future Development

Looking ahead, the WMCI plans to establish a Spanish Language Center and to launch state-of-the-art research laboratories aimed at enhancing learning and scientific research conditions. The institute will continue to strengthen academic exchange and research cooperation, consolidating its role as an academic and cultural bridge between Spain and China.
