Biodiversity Interpretation Centre (CiBi)

The Biodiversity Interpretation Centre (CIBI) is part of the Campus Moncloa of International Excellence (CEI) located on the grounds of the Alphonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden. The centre aims to bolster scientific dissemination of work done at the Complutense and Technical universities in the field of natural sciences.

The project started with the remodeling of a multipurpose space, informally furnished, for infant and youth activities in the framework of school visits to the gardens, as well as additional university activities such as conferences, seminars, work sessions, etc.

In parallel, an exhibition area was set up to allow the university community to showcase the results of their research projects or their programmes of scientific dissemination. This space is also used as an exhibition area by students for the practical demonstration of their degree or Master’s degree work and as a venue for specialist scientific conferences as well as for the general public.

The purpose of the CIBI is to act as the focal point for the activities of the CEI in the promotion of scientific culture related to biodiversity.

In this regard the CIBI has collaborated in the creation of a biogeological clock located in the central plaza of the garden which combines textual information on the history of the Earth and life with reproductions of fossils and living beings from the remote past, a network of secondary education centres with activities related to the clock and a project to design “tours of scientific collections within the Campus Moncloa”, etc.
