Marta C. Lourenço
Marta C. Lourenço is the present director of the National Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Lisbon (MUHNAC). She has background training in Physics (Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon), a MA in Museology (NOVA FCSH, Lisbon) and a PhD in Museology and History of Technology (CNAM, Paris). She teaches Material Culture of Science in the Masters of History and Philosophy of Science (Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon) and is a research member of CIUHCT, the Interuniversity Research Centre for the History of Science and Technology (University of Lisbon).
She has published 13 books and over 60 articles and chapters in books. Her research and teaching interests encompass scientific collections, history of collections and museums, and colonial collections. She has been awarded the Vital Brazil Medal (2014) and the George Sarton Medal of the University of Gent (2015).
Marta Lourenço is the national coordinator of PRISC (Portuguese Research Infrastructure of Scientific Collections). She has been in the Boards of several international associations of museums and heritage: History of Physics Group of the European Physical Society; Universeum, the European University Heritage Network; the Scientific Instrument Commission of the International Union for the History and Philosophy of Science, and the International Committee for University Museums and Collections (UMAC) of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for the History of Science, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm. Presently, she advises the Science History Institute in Philadelphia, USA.
