Our digitization service includes professional AD/DA converters that allow us to work at sampling rates of up to 192 kHz through the RME Fireface 802 audio interface. The laboratory currently has players available to digitize the following formats:

• Cassette tapes
• Shellac discs (78 rpm)
• Vinyl records (33/45 rpm)
• VHS tapes
• Open-reel magnetic tapes

We also have Compact Disc, DAT, and MiniDisc players that allow us to extract the characteristics of the original digital format, in order to create online files that preserve the content of these recordings—originally on digital or magneto-optical discs—in the cloud.

On the software side, the laboratory uses the Pro Tools DAW for the recording process and iZotope RX for digital cleanup and restoration. During this process, various noise-reduction plugins are used to eliminate sound artifacts such as the crackle of shellac and vinyl discs and the hiss of magnetic tape. For analysis and study of the sound wave and its behavior, Sonic Visualiser and Audacity are used: spectrograms, dynamic range parametrization, and stereo field analysis. For image processing and the digitization of VHS, Mini DV, or 8mm tapes, programs such as DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, and OBS Studio are used.
