Daniel Arrieta Domínguez

Daniel Arrieta Domínguez is currently pursuing an International PhD in Literary Studies at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He holds an MA in Spanish and Latin American Literatures from the University of Arkansas. As an undergraduate, he holds degrees in Economics and Business Administration (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Psychology (UNED), and 3rd year of Humanities at Universidad de Cádiz.

Between 2007 and 2012, he was a lecturer in Spanish Language, Hispanic Cultures and Intercultural Studies at Ritsumeikan University and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, in Japan, where he also acted as Chair and Chief Examiner for Instituto Cervantes’ DELE examinations. He also worked as an Associate editor for JALT (Japanese Association of Language Teaching).

In 2013, he received a Master’s degree in Literary Studies at Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis “O sol se põe em São Paulo, de Bernardo Carvalho: prácticas intertextuales con la figura y la obra de Tanizaki Junichirô”. He was a visiting scholar at PUC-RIO (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro) and presently belongs to its research groups “A literatura brasileira contemporânea e sua crítica” and “Teorias atuais da literatura”. He acted as secretary for the 2014 European Digital Literatures Erasmus Intensive Program with the participation of Paris 8, UCM, University of Ljubljana, Falmouth University and Universidade Fernando Pessoa.

His academic interests are in the fields of Comparative Literature (Spanish, Brazilian, Japanese, and North American), Cognitive Poetics and Cinema Studies. He has published a number of chapters in books as well as articles in national and international journals, where he has explored the work of authors such as Junot Díaz, Bernardo Carvalho, Tanizaki Junichirô, Eduardo Lago and Vladimir Nabokov, among others.
