COIL SouthAfrica Project
The South African Native College, later the University of Fort Hare, was founded in 1916 on the site of the earlier British military stronghold. The college originated from the uneasy alliance between the new class of educated African Christians, Southern African leaders, and early twentieth-century white liberals. Politically active alumni included Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Robert Mugabe and Herbert Chitepo in Zimbabwe, and Elius Mathu and Charles Njonjo in Kenya.
In 2017 SIIM started collaboration with two scholars at Fort Hare: Siyanda Ntlabathi and Robert Mongwe. This collaboration takes place in the framework of COIL initiative within the Capacity Building Erasmus+ KA2 (2015), coordinated from University of Antwerp as part of the actions in the Internalization Program of IMPALA network.
The partnership takes place under the mentorship of Mirjam Kauck at the Open University UK and Jon Rubin, founder of the COIL iniative at State University of New York at Albany SUNY.
SIIM was present at the workshop that took place 27-28 November 2017 at Univ. of Antwerp.
