Calvo Cortés, Nuria

Nuria Calvo Cortés is a Senior Lecturer at Universidad Complutense in Madrid (UCM), where she has lectured since 2006. She defended her Doctoral Thesis in English Historical linguistics, more specifically on historical cognitive semantics and syntax in the Late Modern English period, in 2012. Since she started her research, she has always shown an interest in historical and diachronic linguistics, making use of different corpora to carry out a variety of studies from a cognitive linguistics perspective. In the last few years she has concentrated on the analysis of letters written in the 18th and 19th century in Britain by some marginal groups of society, including women and prisoners. In addition, she is currently working on the conceptualization of girlhood in English speaking countries in the 18th and 19th century. She has supervised some PhD students who have already defended their theses and a good number of undergraduate students with their Trabajo Fin de Grado (TFGs) on English historical linguistics and at the moment she is supervising several doctoral students. She particularly welcomes students who are interested in any aspect of the English language in the 18th and 19th century both in Britain and in any other part of the world where English is spoken as a first language.

Nuria Calvo Cortés es Profesora Permanente Laboral en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), donde lleva trabajando desde el año 2006. Defendió su tesis doctoral en lingüística inglesa del inglés, más concretamente en semática y sintaxis cognitiva en el periodo de inglés moderno tardío, en el año 2012. Desde que comenzó su investigación siempre ha mostrado interés por la lingüística histórica y diacrónica, utilizando distintos corpus en numerosos estudios desde una perspectiva lingüística cognitiva. En los últimos años ha concentrado sus estudios en el análisis de cartas escritas en los siglos XVIII y XIX en Gran Bretaña por grupos sociales marginales, que incluyen mujeres y prisioneros. Además, también está trabajando en la actualidad en la conceptualización de la niñez femenina en los países de habla inglesa en los siglos XVIII y XIX. Ha dirigido varias tesis doctorales que ya han sido defendidas, numerosos Trabajos de Fin de Grado (TFGs) sobre lingüística histórica inglesa y en este momento se encuentra dirigiendo varias tesis doctorales. En particular, está interesada en trabajos sobre cualquier aspecto de la lengua inglesa de los siglos XVIII y XIX tanto en conexión con Gran Bretaña como con cualquier otra parte del mundo donde se habla inglés como primera lengua.
