Bio

Mariemi Alonso defended her Doctoral Thesis in 1984 at the UCM,  in the field of Real Algebraic Geometry, supervised by prof. Tomas Recio Muniz. Afterwards, she spent a short post-doc at the Univ. de Rennes I (France) with professor M.F. Coste-Roy, and in 1986 she obtained a position as full professor in the Dept. of Algebra of the UCM. She was a visiting scholar at the univerities of Genoa and Trento, colaborating with professors Alberto Tognoli, Mario Raimondo, María Grazia Marinari and Teo Mora. Since 1987 her interest has been re-oriented to the field of Computational Algebra (CA) and algorithms in Algebraic Geometry.

She was a pioneer leading between 1989 and 1992 the first ERASMUS (student and teaching mobility) of the Facultad de CC. Mathematics (UCM),  the Univ. of Genoa (Italy) and the Univ. Humboldt of Berlin.

In 2008 she enjoyed a sabbatical stay at the University of Nice Sophia-Antípolis, to collaborate with profs. Mourrain and Galligo, in Seminumerical methods for solving systems of algebraic equations and their stability.

In 2012 and 2020 she spent some months as visiting profesor, invited by the Univ de Franche-Comté in Besançon (France), to collaborate on topics of Constructive Algebra with profs. Lombardi and Neurwitz.

She has actively participated in multiple editions of international congresses on Computational Algebra such as ISSAC, AAECC, and MEGA.

During all the time she has been integrated into different projects of the successive national plans for research and promotion of knowledge, in the areas of Algebra and Algorithms in Algebraic Geometry (in the field of Mathematics). Also in various bilateral actions with other European countries (France , Austria, Italy, Israel), with whose colleagues he has written research papers. In particular, she also maintains a long collaboration with prof. Lombardi, at the university of Franche-Comté (Besançon) and prof. Hauser of the University of Wien.

Since its foundation, she has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the EACA congresses and responsible for the UCM node of the Network. Since 2019 he has also been a member of the Scientific Committee of the MEGA congresses.
