1) A Message from the IMI Director
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to inform you that the IMI Institute Council agreed last January 12, 2024, to appoint Bibiana Granda Chico as a member of the Editorial Board of Boletín del IMI, being the coordinator of the following sections: “1+400. Divulgación con 1 imagen y 400 palabras”, “La viñeta matemática” and “Math Art”. All this in substitution of Ángel René Arroyo García. I thank Ángel Arroyo for all the great work he has done and Bibiana for her willingnes to be part of the editorial committee. The new Editorial Board can be seen here: https://www.ucm.es/imi/

Solution
Using similarity and parallel sides, the three 30-degree angles in the upper right corner can be found. Naming the width of the smaller rectangle w, one can discern a 30-30-120 isosceles triangle and a 30-60-90 right triangle. Thus one finds that the large rectangle has a width of 3/2 times the smaller, hence its area is 9/4 of it.
