2ª sesión del ciclo "Retos y oportunidades en las RRII": Interpretación de los retos y oportunidades de Costa Rica frente al cambio climático desde una perspectiva humanística.
Heidy Vega, profesora en la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, ofreció una mirada amplia sobre las dinámicas del cambio climático desde un enfoque humanístico, crítico y holístico, subrayando la necesidad de integrar dimensiones éticas, sociales, educativas y culturales para comprender la vulnerabilidad humana, los impactos territoriales y los escenarios presentes y futuros, destacando el caso de Costa Rica.
Heidy Vega, professor at the National University of Costa Rica, presented a broad overview of the dynamics of climate change from a humanistic, critical, and holistic perspective, emphasizing the need to integrate ethical, social, educational, and cultural dimensions in order to understand human vulnerability, territorial impacts, and present and future scenarios, highlighting the case of Costa Rica.
SICEI: la Legión Cóndor en el cine. La película “Solange du lebst” (Harald Reinl, 1955) en el contexto de la remilitarización y la superación del pasado en la posguerra
Ralf Junkerjürgen, Director del Centro de Estudios Hispánicos de la Universidad de Ratisbona, analizó el singular caso de Solange du lebst (Mientras vivas), la película alemana rodada tras la SGM y filmada entre Granada y Antequera en 1955 y convertida en una “película maldita”, nunca emitida y pronto olvidada. En la ponencia se revisó su producción y se puso de relieve la importancia del cine como herramienta política.
Professor Ralf Junkerjürgen, Director of the Center for Hispanic Studies at the University of Regensburg, analyzed the unique case of Solange du lebst (As Long as You Live), a German film shot after World War II and filmed between Granada and Antequera in 1955 which ended up becoming a “cursed film,” never broadcast and soon forgotten. The presentation reviewed its production and highlighted the importance of cinema as a political weapon.
Foro "La crisis multidimensional en Centroamérica en perspectiva comparada"
En el evento se reunieron académicos y profesionales de la Central American Research Alliance, el Instituto de Desarrollo-Fundación ETEA de la Universidad Loyola, de la Red Iniciativa Centroamérica (Red ICA) y del programa Estado de la Nación. En la jornada también se dio por inaugurado el nuevo "Foro ICEI Centroamérica", fruto de la colaboración con la Red ICA.
Academics and professionals from the Central American Research Alliance, the Development Institute-ETEA Foundation at Loyola University, the Central American Initiative Network (ICA) and the State of the Nation programme collaborated in the ‘Forum on the multidimensional crisis in Central America from a comparative perspective’. The new ‘ICEI Central America Forum’, the result of collaboration with Red ICA, was also inaugurated during the event.
2ª Sesión del Foro EPC: European Growth Models in Global Value Chains: Does Participation Shape Economic Performance?
Daniel Herrero, investigador del ICEI, analizó el impacto de la participación de los países europeos en las cadenas globales de valor y su influencia en los patrones de crecimiento económico de cada región. Las diferencias en los sectores productivos y el grado de especialización de cada país son factores clave que determinan su competitividad y que afectan a aspectos cruciales como el acceso a mercados internacionales, marcando distinciones entre las economías de Europa.
Daniel Herrero, a researcher at ICEI, analyzed the impact of European countries' participation in global value chains and their influence on the economic growth patterns of each region. Differences in productive sectors and the degree of specialization of each country are key factors that determine their competitiveness and affect crucial aspects such as access to international markets, marking distinctions between European economies.
Presentación del informe "Salud mental, soledad no deseada y suicidios: ¿fenómenos interconectados?"
A. Jesús Sánchez-Fuentes, Najat Bazah y Celia Gil-Bermejo, director e investigadoras del ICEI, presentaron este informe realizado en el marco de colaboración con la ONG Acción Familiar. Ofrece un análisis detallado sobre la conexión de estos tres fenómenos. Además, presenta recomendaciones sobre cómo abordar de manera integral estos problemas, haciendo énfasis en la importancia de crear redes de apoyo social y en la necesidad de implementar políticas públicas que promuevan la integración social y el bienestar psicológico.
A. Jesús Sánchez-Fuentes, Najat Bazah, and Celia Gil-Bermejo, director and researchers at ICEI, presented this report, in collaboration with the NGO Acción Familiar. It offers a detailed analysis of the connection between these three phenomena. It also presents recommendations on how to address these problems in a comprehensive manner, emphasizing the importance of creating social support networks and the need to implement public policies that promote social integration and psychological well-being.
SICEI: Multinacionales españolas y su historia en América latina. De los años 90 a la crisis de 2008
Sebastián Pasquiarello, profesor de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, analizó la entrada de capital español en los mercados latinoamericanos tras su integración en la UE, un proceso que impulsó la internacionalización de sus empresas. Abordó la consolidación de las multinacionales españolas en sectores estratégicos, así como el impacto económico, político y social derivado de la transposición del modelo empresarial español en la región, y los efectos que tuvo la crisis financiera de 2008 sobre esta presencia empresarial.
Sebastián Pasquiarello, professor at the University of Buenos Aires, analyzed the influx of Spanish capital into Latin American markets following Spain's integration into the EU, a process that drove the internationalization of Spanish companies. He addressed the consolidation of Spanish multinationals in strategic sectors, as well as the economic, political, and social impact of the transposition of the Spanish business model in the region, and the effects of the 2008 financial crisis on this business presence.

Encuentro organizado por el ICEI y la Fundación Alternativas que se centró en el análisis de los resultados de la IV Cumbre UE-CELAC, con el objetivo adicional de identificar elementos que puedan ser aplicados a la XXX Cumbre Iberoamericana, que se celebrará en Madrid en 2026.
This encounter organized by Fundación Alternativas and ICEI took place. It was centred on an analysis of the results of the IV EU-CELAC Summit, with the additional objective of identifying elements appliable for the XXX Iberoamerican Summit, which will take place in Madrid in 2026.
International conference on global trends in energy governance
España, como miembro de la UE, y Azerbaiyán son países con posiciones complementarias en el debate internacional sobre la energía. Durante esta conferencia organizada por el ICEI y la Embajada de Azerbaiyán se debatieron cuestiones clave, desde perspectivas macroeconómicas hasta dinámicas geopolíticas, destacando la necesaria cooperación eficaz entre Estados, instituciones y comunidades académicas.
Spain, as a member of the EU, and Azerbaijan are countries with complementary positions in the international energetic debate. During this conference organized by ICEI and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Spain, key aspects were discussed, from macroeconomic perspectives to gropolitical dynamics, highlighting the neccessary effective cooperation between States and academic communities.

Mohamed Badine El Yattioui, investigador del Colegio de Defensa Nacional de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos (EAU) en Abu Dhabi, abordó la dinámica actual entre el Consejo de Cooperación del Golfo (CCG) y la UE, analizando temas clave como la cooperación económica y energética, los desafíos geopolíticos, la transición hacia economías sostenibles, la seguridad, así como la diplomacia y el fortalecimiento de alianzas entre ambas regiones.
Mohamed Badine El Yattioui, researcher at the National Defense College of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abu Dhabi. He undertook the current dynamics between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the EU, analysing key subjects such as economic and energetic cooperation, geopolitical challenges, the transition towards more sustainable economies, security, diplomacy, and the strengthening of alliances between both regions.
SICEI: When the tail wags the dog: a time-varying FCVAR analysis of bitcoin market
José Carlos Vides, profesor de la Universidad de Sevilla, analizó cómo las fluctuaciones de bitcoin influyen en otros mercados financieros y viceversa, explorando la relación temporal entre ellos. En su estudio destaca que estas interacciones no son estáticas, sino que varían a lo largo del tiempo, lo que refleja la naturaleza dinámica y cambiante del mercado de criptomonedas, y su influencia en otros activos financieros.
José Carlos Vides, a professor at the Universidad de Sevilla, analyzed how the fluctuations of bitcoin influence other financial markets and vice versa, exploring the temporal relationship between them. In his study, he emphasizes that these interactions are not static but rather vary throughout time, reflecting the dynamic and changing nature of cryptocurrencies' markets and their influence on other financial assets.
Jornada técnica: camino al WCEAM/Congrega 2026
El ICEI organizó junto con ESReDA (European Safety, Reliability and Data Association) e INGEMAN (Asociación para la Promoción de la Ingeniería de Mantenimiento) este encuentro preparatorio del Congreso Congrega/WCEAM 2026, que tendrá lugar en Braga (Portugal). El evento, coordinado por el investigador del ICEI Antonio Gillén, reunió a representantes de universidades, empresas, asociaciones y administraciones públicas del ámbito hispano-luso e iberoamericano, con el propósito de fortalecer las redes de cooperación, promover la digitalización en la gestión de activos y preparar las líneas de trabajo conjunto hacia 2026.
ICEI with ESReDA (European Safety, Reliability and Data Association) and INGEMAN (Association for the Promotion of Maintenance Engineering), organised this preparatory meeting for the Congrega/WCEAM 2026 Congress, which will take place in Braga (Portugal). The event, coordinated by ICEI researcher Antonio Gillén, brought together representatives from universities, companies, associations and public administrations from Spain, Portugal and Latin America, with the aim of strengthening cooperation networks, promoting digitalisation in asset management and preparing joint lines of work towards 2026.

Pablo Galaso, investigador del Instituto de Economía de la Universidad de la República (Uruguay), ahondó en la creciente necesidad de fomentar la cooperación entre diferentes actores para generar soluciones innovadoras adaptadas a las particularidades y necesidades del contexto latinoamericano, y en los desafíos que deben ser superados para aprovechar todo su potencial.
Pablo Galaso, researcher at the Institute of Economy at Universidad de la República (Uruguay) delved into the growing necessity of promoting cooperation among different actors to generate innovative solutions adapted to the distinctive features and needs of the Latinamerican context, and the challenges which need to be overcomed to take advantage of all its potential.
Conferencia: Naciones Unidas y la cuestión de palestina
Ardi Imseis, profesor de Derecho Internacional en la Queen’s University de Canadá y autor del libro The United Nations and the Question of Palestine, abordó el papel de la ONU en este conflicto desde los primeros momentos de la organización y los diferentes episodios por los que ha pasado Palestina en relación con el orden jurídico internacional.
Ardi Imseis, professor of International Law at Queen's University of Canada and author of the book The United Nations and the Question of Palestine, adressed the role of the UN in this conflict from the firsts moments of the organization and the different episodes through which Palestine has passed in relation with the international legal order.

Luis Enrique Pedauga, Project Officer en el Joint Research Centre (JRC) de la Comisión Europea, presentó un análisis sobre el impacto del Fondo de Recuperación NextGenerationEU y la herramienta FIDELIO (Full Interregional Dynamic Econometric Long-term Input-Output), utilizada para estimar los impactos socioeconómicos y ambientales de las políticas industriales, comerciales y de innovación de la UE.
Luis Enrique Pedauga, Project Officer in the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Comission, presented an analysison the impact of the Recovery Fund NextGenerationEU and the tool FIDELIO (Full Interregional Dynamic Econometric Long-term Input-Output), used to estimate the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the EU's industrial, commercial and innovation policies.
